Moving to a new city more often than not causes mixed emotions. The truth is that it is much harder to move to the United States from a different country.

When people hear me speak, they always want to know where I come from. They are aware I have an accent but no one can guess where it is from.

photo courtesy of americanapparel.comScarves solve the cold neck crisis and come in handy to warm that last inch of skin that too-short turtlenecks and hoodies don't quite cover. Regardless, many have decided that this is a trend that can pass from season to season and one often sees people walking around in thin cotton T-shirts, denim shorts, and a torso-enveloping scarf.

Autumn is pumpkin season. With so many available, take advantage of the opportunity and utilize those pumpkins, for things other than jack-o-lanterns! (Hint: when mold starts to grow, it's probably time to stop recycling and throw them away for good. Don't worry; you can feed the wildlife with the remains.)

KWAME SPEAKS: Why Pan-Africanism?

The Hilltop, Howard University, DC

Why Pan-Africanism? A 1981 publication of Ujima, the voice of the Howard University Student Association (HUSA), posed this poignant question. This is a question that still must be answered 27 years later. In order to effectively answer the question of the necessity of a Pan-Africanist political, social and economic orientation, we must first define the term.

To Whom It May Concern,

I read the current edition of "The Loquitur" (Oct. 2, 2008) and was surprised at the lack of information pertaining to the current financial crisis, the government bailout package and the first presidential debate. I find it disheartening that these stories had only one paragraph each written about them, and then were categorized underneath the title "Candidates clash in debate on economy and foreign policy.

As business students, we've been conditioned to follow the Dow Jones Industrial Average to gauge the performance of the market and the economy. The media has played a huge part in promoting the volatility in the Dow, but the current crisis is a function of tight credit.

Jeane Kirkpatrick, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, used these words in 1984 to describe San Francisco Democrats: "They always blame America first."

Kirkpatrick's flawed notion - to criticize Americans who are critical of the United States' policies - has grown over the years into an even more warped philosophy: to call Americans "unpatriotic" if they speak out against their country.

Dear Ms. Mortgage Maven, can you give me information on selling my property myself? I see "FSBO" (for sale by owner) signs in front of other properties that are not as nice as mine, so I figured that if they could do it, I could do it too.

Christians in the Muslim World

Knight News, Queens College, NY

Last Sunday, a slew of protestors took to the streets of Baghdad. It hardly grabbed my attention until I noticed the headlines; the participants of the march were Iraqi Christians, contesting the passage of a law that would remove the quota system in Parliament and effectively end any guarantee of minority seats in the legislature, including those for Christians.

Everyone knows the old adage that nice boys finish last. No one ever says anything about nice girls. Avoiding the Facts: Sarah Palin at the VP Debate

Maroon News, Colgate University, NY

No one expects forthcoming and direct answers from their politicians; long, off-topic, and irrelevant responses with a dash of rhetoric have become the standard recipe of political language. However, Sarah Palin employed these norms in the most extreme of fashions during the recent vice presidential debate, abandoning attempts to articulate relevant responses in favor of language and answers intended to appeal to the constituency she describes as composed of "Joe Six Pack[s]" and

"hockey moms".

The men's basketball team only won five games in the Big East last season.

But enough about them already.

Last year, the women's volleyball team only lost one Big East game, finished first in the conference and when they came home to Carnesecca Arena after avenging their regular season loss to Louisville with a three-games-to-none-sweep in the Big East Tournament, they did so with the conference trophy.
